Often associated with an Edwardian and Art Deco sensibility, his work frequently appeared in major British exhibitions and publications during the first half of the 20th century. [Born in Manchester, Webster showed early talent and won a scholarship to study at the Royal College of Art. He continued his studies at the Royal Academy Schools, where he refined his skills as a portraitist.

While at the RCA, he met fellow artist Susan Beatrice Pearse (best known for illustrating the Ameliaranne book series).
