Size -61 x 76cm (24 x 29¾ in.)

Oil on canvas

Signed and dated 1964 (lower right) titled (lower left)

Born in India the son of an artistic mother, Tulloch joined the Indian Cavalry while still at Cambridge, and served in the Poona Horse. He served in the Frontier for three years in the South Waziristan Scouts. He later took command of the 18th Cavalry. In the Second War he served in North Africa. He married his wife Doreen in 1928 in Peshawar. He did not study art until after his retirement from the army, but he always had a brilliant natural talent. His pencil sketches of horses are full of life and compare well with his contemporaries, Lionel Edwards and Charles Payne".

He was largely self-taught but took lessons with Lionel Edwards. He illustrated many books, including a wide range of pony themed children's books, including by Enid Blyton.

The painting appears untouched in its original plain oak frame
