Enrique Castells Capuro (1913-1987) was born in Montevideo to a family of well-known Uruguayan painters, and became one of the country's best-loved and most treasured artists. He specialized in Goucho (Latin cowboys) paintings, and his works helped preserve the heritage of Uruguay, and he was masterful renderer of horses in action.
He was also a prominent, much sought-after muralist, and his works still adorn walls throughout Latin and North America, including the Univeristy of Texas and the United Nations. He illustrated many books and magazines, and his paintings were often made into lithographs. Like many Latin artists, his listings appear under his middle name, Castells.
