Although unsigned, this 19th-century oil on canvas is very much in the style of the celebrated marine artist Thomas Butterworth 1768 – 1842.

Buttersworth was an English seaman of the Napoleonic wars period who became a marine painter. He produced works to commission and was little exhibited during his lifetime.
