A Large Japanese Imari Jar and Cover Edo Period (1736-1795)

This is an oviform vas with a short cylindrical neck, decorated in iron red and gilt on underglaze blue, the broad band of plum, chrysanthemum and hydrangea issuing from rock work, the shoulder with a band of chrysanthemum petals with various geometrical and floral designs, the neck with karakusa, the domed cover similarly decorated, the finial is modelled as a sacred pearl.
