housed in a very good 18th, possibly 17thCentury carved and gilded (original) frame

This 17th-century oil was relined probably at least 100 years ago. The varnish is breaking down and needs cleaning, but a very fine painting is waiting to come out here, although it still looks very good now. There is no loss to the painting surface, but there are a few tiny chips to the varnish, which shows the original colour underneath.

The frame is in very good condition aside from a couple of minor chip (see images) and is suitably worn for its age. The guidance remains very bright.  There is a tiny chip to the left of the scroll.
