Walter Ernest Webster (1877–1959) was a prominent British figure and portrait painter known for his elegant, soft-toned depictions of women and children. Often associated with an Edwardian and Art Deco sensibility, his work frequently appeared in major British exhibitions and publications during the first half of the 20th century. [Born in Manchester, Webster showed early talent and won a scholarship to study at the Royal College of Art. He continued his studies at the Royal Academy Schools, where he refined his skills as a portraitist.
While at the RCA, he met fellow artist Susan Beatrice Pearse (best known for illustrating the Ameliaranne book series). They married in 1919 and lived at Broom Villa in Parsons Green, London.
