Pierre-Edouard Frere was born in Paris. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts under Paul Delaroche. He made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1843 where he continued to exhibit until his death. He won many medals and in 1855, received the ribbon of the Legion of Honour.
