Ronald Charles Mitchell was born in Hull 1960. he was brought up by his grandparents was fortunate to be encouraged to draw and paint by his Uncle James a gifted amateur artist and sailor. His great uncle was the renowned marine painter William Frederick Mitchell who is well represented in the National Maritime Museum in London.
